It is the extensive precious metal interests of Royal Bafokeng Holdings which gives rise to the Platinum Micro name. History Platinum Micro is a local technology components distributor. Platinum Micro, formerly known as Ingram Micro South Africa, was formed in 2007 through a joint venture between the world’s largest technology distributor, Ingram Micro Europe (Division of Ingram Micro Inc, (NYSE:IM)), and South Africa’s largest technology distribution group, MB Technologies. August 2010, saw MB Technologies acquiring the remainder of the shares from Ingram Micro Europe, and the subsequent name change to Platinum Micro.
