History
Platinum Micro is a local technology components distributor. Platinum Micro, formerly known as Ingram Micro South Africa, was formed in 2007 through a joint venture between the world’s largest technology distributor, Ingram Micro Europe (Division of Ingram Micro Inc, (NYSE:IM)), and South Africa’s largest technology distribution group, MB Technologies. August 2010, saw MB Technologies acquiring the remainder of the shares from Ingram Micro Europe, and the subsequent name change to Platinum Micro.

MB Technologies is Southern Africa’s leading black-owned IT distribution group. With Royal Bafokeng Holdings as the group’s primary shareholder, MB Technologies is one of the largest unlisted Black Empowered IT groups in the country and one of the most significant contributors to transformation in the IT market.

The group’s strong focus on corporate social investment, black-empowerment and employment equity has seen all of its companies becoming partners of choice within their specific areas of business. The group’s operating companies include Tarsus Technologies (South Africa’s largest IT distributor), Platinum Micro, A.C.T. (the niche market consumables distributor), ChannelWare (reseller centres in outlying areas) and Printacom (OKI Printing Solutions).
